Just having a blast

Just had a blast last night at Slim’s, for the Priscilla Ahn show. This is a picture of Priscilla and Wendy. Aaron didn’t make the photo frame, but he played beautifully, as well.

Social me: EVIDENCE

Yes! I did something social last week. And it was rad. I went to the honeyhoney show at the Red Devil Lounge. The crowd loved them, which I expected. I’m not trying to be cute, but seriously, how could you not love them? Here are some blurry pics I took from my phone:

I feel so proud to know these talented and HILARIOUS folks. I suddenly realized I could be doing them more harm than good by posting here. Well, I don’t think I have enough readers to make an impact, but please let me know if you think otherwise.

Juliette Commagere LIVE Performance on The Bird And The Bee – live streaming video powered by Livestream

What?! You didn’t see a live stage performance video when you pressed play in my previous post? That’s because I forgot to find out that the archive of the video isn’t up until March 23, which I just discovered two minutes ago by checking out The Bird and The Bee scavenger hunt page. Well, Wendy must’ve read how confused I was about looking for the Juliette video URL because she came through and emailed me the link to Juliette’s set from The Bird and The Bee show at the El Rey. Thanks lady!!

Hotel Cafe: Final nights in L.A for my boys

Chad-Amy-Evan-hotel-cafe.jpgThis picture of my cousins and me was taken exactly a week ago at the Big Phony show at the Hotel Cafe

Oh, how I miss my cousins. They were so much fun, and I’ll post more pictures of our fun times around the town known as Southern California. For now, I’d like you to know that Big Phony performed awesomely for his record release/pre-record release party at the Hotel Cafe. I say the record-release-slash-pre-record-release because it was my feeling that his actual record release party was Thursday, but Wednesday was added because Thursday was too popular. Good thing for me, because I have knitting class on Thursdays, and I wouldn’t have made it, to take this Wednesday shot:

The night before the Big Phony Wednesday show, on Tuesday the ninth, I hung out with my cute cousins at their first visit to the Hotel Cafe to watch Priscilla play. The cousins already met Priscilla when we cheered on our knight at Medieval Times

group

To clarify, the above Medieval Times pic was taken about a month ago. So here’s the pic from Priscilla’s GORGEOUS show at the Hotel Cafe last week…

I should tell Priscilla in person, but her song about the elves really touched my heart. I also think it’s rad that she gave Wendy/The Sweet Hurt some performance time…

Pictures from Desmond Dekker Tribute night

Thanks Candice Kortkamp!

light-bright-tvs-from-candice.jpgCandice’s photo of the light-brights

In case you missed my previous post, I posted a video of The Sweet Hurt playing “Take This Away.” This was my first vimeo post, and I hope to post many more. Here’s what I wrote to accompany the video on the vimeo page:

The Sweet Hurt closed the Desmond Dekker Tribute show produced by Social Science Recordings. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the mental wherewithal to record her cover of Desmond Dekker’s “Honour Your Mother and Father” but at least the ol’ noggin assembled together in time to record “Take This Away,” The Sweet Hurt original. Here’s Wendy and Gabe. I wish you could see Gabe’s shoes. They’re Reebok Pumps!

Gabe-Reebok-Pumps.jpgGabe can jump really high because he has the Reebok Pumps

schedule-2.jpgThe folks at Social Science Recordings were kind enough to post a schedule for the night. It’s my fault you can’t read this.

I managed to get there in time to watch my friends, the Monolators, but like I said earlier, I thought I didn’t have my camera so I didn’t take any pictures of the first half of the night. Well, Candice was there, and she took some AWESOME pictures:

Six bands later, I found my camera. Just in time for Obi Best:

The Sweet Hurt performs a hit

Social Science Recordings produced an awesome event, the Desmond Dekker covers night. There were 16 bands (14 bands?), playing that night. Each band started with a Desmond Dekker number, then closed with one of their own. Not a hard concept. Well, one of the bands got pushy and we were all like, no they di-int! Other than that, everyone was very respectful of the producers’ way.

There aren’t any pictures from the earlier part of the night because I couldn’t find my camera (yeah, yeah, yeah…same old story) in my purse/abyss, but I managed to find the camera near the end of the evening, so I’ll post those pictures tomorrow. Not now, because I’m sick. I shouldn’t be staying up at this hour anyway. However, I’m excited to share my first vimeo uploadness, which is of Wendy and Gabe playing “Take This Away” from that night. I know I got a little wobbly in the first ten seconds, but I managed to keep things smooth for the rest of the song.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Birthdays and rock shows with Katy Perry and The Bird and the Bee

Happy birthday to Tom and Heather. This is just an intro blog entry because I desperately need to pop out my contacts and go to sleep. Anyway, I LOVE Tom and Heather, and I hope they’re having a great birthday week.

So yeah, like I said, I’m sleepy, but here’s a picture of the lovely Greg and Inara with their ladies…together, they’re The Bird and the Bee:

TheBirdAndTheBee4.jpg

Of course, let’s not forget the back up singers: Alex, Juliette, and Wendy.

Thanks Kylie for this picture and the next picture I’m about to show.

I think this was my favorite part of Katy Perry’s show. Okay, I admit, I liked a lot of her show, and this was one of the best parts…She pulled up a huge inflatable lipstick floatie! So rad. I totally want one of those.

Okay, more later. I’ve been sleep deprived…………
